Scramble School
The 2026 application will open in early July
Course Description:
Scrambling is generally characterized as off-trail travel to gain access to lakes, peaks, or other features not connected
by a maintained trail. Scrambling may be described as “non-technical” climbing that utilizes hands, but not ropes. This
course emphasizes safe travel over rocky terrain, including methods for protection and assistance, when needed.
Outdoor sessions will provide hands on instruction on basic skills, culminating in a Graduation Scramble. Previous
events have tackled Harrison Peak: 7.8 miles round trip w/2600’ gain
Scramble School Director(s) - Michael Pinter and Tyler Nyman
Course Requirements:
Students should be experienced hikers, prepared to hike multiple miles with over 2000’ of gain. Students should
already be familiar with using maps or apps to navigate established trails. This course will focus on off-trail navigation
skills. Backcountry experience preferred.
Required equipment includes:
(Mountaineers will have some loaners)
Sturdy hiking shoes or boots (leather recommended)
