CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19 Join in the construction of this brand new trail in Spokane Valley?s Ponderosa area. We?ll begin near the site for the future Phillips Creek Trailhead at the end of Cimmaron Road, and work westward through the recently acquired Flying L Property (part of the Glenrose Unit of Dishman Hills Conservation Area) to eventually connect up with the current Glenrose Trail. When completed, this 2.5 mile addition will be part of an east-west through trail connecting the Ponderosa Area to the Glenrose Trailhead (3701 S. Thierman Road), completed by Spokane County last year. Meet at the site of the future Phillips Creek Trailhead. Directions: From I-90, take the Argonne Exit 287. Go south on Argonne which will become Dishman-Mica Road, and drive 3.6 miles until you get to the traffic light at Schafer Road. Turn right on Schafer and go 0.5 mile to Cimmaron. Take a right on Cimmaron and drive 0.8 mile until it T?s with Sunderland at a fenced field. Go through the gate and we?ll park in the field behind the fence. The trailhead parking lot may be under construction the same time as our project so we?ll adapt/relocate parking as needed. BRING: Wear long pants and sturdy shoes and bring gloves, lunch, water, hard hat and sun or safety glasses if you have them, and clothes for the weather. TOOLS: Spokane Mountaineers will provide brushing and digging tools as well as safety gear. If you have your own grub hoe or Mcleod bring it along, it will extend our Club gear. SCHEDULE: After an initial safety and trail building orientation at the vehicles, we?ll take a very short hike in carrying our tools to the work site. We recommend that everyone take breaks whenever they want but there will be an official one about 10:30 with lunch at 12:00. We?ll wrap up about 3:00 (depending on conditions), and hike back to the vehicles for a little clean-up and some refreshments. Again, all necessary tools will be supplied and trail building experience isn?t necessary- we train on the job :-) If interested, contact leader as soon as possible so tools and refreshments can be organized. Either e-mail me or sign up on The Mountaineers web site and I?ll send out periodic updates with late-breaking info and the current roster in case you want to ride-share.
