Who's Out There? Doing What?
Stevens Peak Climb
Trip date: 04/21/2007 Reported by: Roland Lamarche
On Saturday, April 20, Mountain School II conducted a seminar for Advanced Crevasse Rescue. The exercises were conducted on the steep cliffs that surround Lower Stevens Lake. Four different scenarios were created to challenge the advanced climbers.
1. Middle man falls in.
2. End man falls in, not enough rope left.
3. Most experienced is farthest away from crevasse.
4. Single man rescue.
Using newly learned techniques, they were able to set safe anchors and complete the rescue of a fallen climber. After completing the seminar, the climbers were available to assist the snow practice for Mountain School I. The instructors and remaining climbers set a route to the summit. While there, a fixed line was set to assist beginning climbers up and over the cornice.
