Schools and Clinics: Mountain Bike Clinic

School directors: and

Play in the Dirt!  What’s it all about? Learning new skills and lots of fun! Take your trail riding to the next level! This clinic enhances your bike handling skills, whether you are novice, advanced or anywhere in between. Tired of falling down hills, spinning out on the climbs or walking around switchbacks? Our experienced instructors guide you, in a controlled environment, through the skills and techniques necessary to take your riding to the next level. We have something for everyone! Just want to be more confident riding on trails? We can help. Want to learn how to rail corners and hop over logs? We can help with that, too. In addition to the basics of shifting, braking and balance, we’ll have skill stations for different levels of obstacles, drops, hops, limbo, switchback technique, climbs and descents.

Specially designed skills stations allow you to concentrate on learning new skills in a safe, controlled environment. Your instructors will also take you out on the trails so you can apply and practice your new skills.

Who may participate? Riders of all abilities may participate. You must join or be a current member of the Spokane Mountaineers. See the registration form for minimum age requirements. A mountain bike in good working order and a helmet are required. Former students are welcome and encouraged to attend. Acquiring mountain biking skills is a continuous endeavor - there is always something new to learn!

Registration Fee: $40. This fee is non-refundable. If you are unable to attend after registering, you are responsible for finding a replacement who will pay you directly. Note: Registration is limited to 30 students to ensure small groups and personalized instruction. No exceptions.

What you get at the clinic:
  • At least 10 hours of superb instruction from skilled, experienced riders.
  • Maximum 3:1 student to instructor ratio.
  • Emphasis on technical skills to help you master most trail conditions and gradients.
  • Teaching at your level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) tailored to what you most want to learn.
Why come:
  • First, because there's always more that any rider can learn! Some riders have been known to take the clinic more than 5 times!!
  • Second, it's fun to learn along with enthusiastic instructors and students who ride at the same level as yourself
  • Third, we end the weekend with great food and fantastic doorprizes!
Where it is held: At Riverside State Park, - it's close to downtown Spokane and sports a treasure of trails to please or challenge riders of any level.

When: Saturday June 12 and Sunday June 13

What it costs: A mere $40!! (You must also be a paid-up member of SMI). So stay close to home that weekend - get tanked up on free endorphins and cut your carbon footprint, plus learn how to get more enjoyment out of mountain biking!

The deadline: June 3 is final. If we don't have a minimum student quota by that date we will cancel the clinic. So if you've been hanging on the fence on this decision it's time to act. There is an entry form in the Spring Kinnikinnick or download the form linked below.
