Schools and Clinics: Youth Rock School

School director:

Description: This is an extensive, two-day introduction to outdoor rock climbing, designed specifically for youth who are interested in learning more about the sport and proper safety procedures. The course will cover the basic skills of outdoor rock climbing including: correct belay procedures, climbing techniques, rappelling, climbing knots and top rope systems using established anchors. 
 
Cost: $25, which includes a 1-year Junior membership with the Spokane Mountaineers.
 
Prerequisites: 12 to 18 years old (12-15 requires parental attendance).            
 
Climbing Equipment: Each Student will need rock shoes, harness, belay device, and locking carabiner. Ropes and helpmets will be provided by the Spokane Mountaineers. Spokane Mountaineers have a limited supply of climbing shoes, harnesses and belay devices, call ahead to reserve.
 
Location: Minnehaha Rocks at John Shields Park
 
Forms: Each student must fill out a Youth Rock Climbing School Registration Form as well as a Consent for Treatment of Minor Form completed by parent/guardian.

Schedule information: May 15th and 16st. Class times run from 10 am to 4 pm.

Registration information: Students must pre-register in the spring by completing the appropriate forms and return them to the school directors prior to May 1st.
